Ireland and Green Energy

Irish energy company Vayu has signed a €1.2m electricity-supply deal with Ecocem, Ireland’s specialist producer of environmentally friendly cement. Under the agreement, Vayu will supply Ecocem with 100% green electricity to meet all its year-round electricity requirements. The deal will provide Ecocem with direct access to transparent wholesale electricity market prices, allowing the company to achieve significant savings compared with traditional fixed rate tariffs in the market.

The ability to source 100% green energy for its operations was a key consideration for Ecocem, which uses entirely recycled materials to produce its green cement products for the Irish market. Vayu is the only energy company in Ireland to supply all its customers with electricity 100% attributed to renewable sources. This means that the carbon footprint of Vayu’s customers is zero in terms of the electricity they consume.

Conor O’Riain Head of New Markets and Products, Ecocem, commented: “Ecocem is committed to minimising our impact on the environment across all aspects of our operations – from the electricity we use throughout our business to the cement we produce using recycled by-product from blast furnaces that would otherwise end up as landfill.”

“We are delighted to join forces with Vayu to minimise our carbon footprint through the use of electricity with a 100% renewable rating. Not only does the deal provide us with direct access to sustainable electricity at wholesale market prices but we are partnering with a company that has demonstrated a deep understanding and expertise of Ireland’s energy market.”

Barry Murphy, energy specialist at Vayu said: “As our partnership with Ecocem shows, Irish businesses are moving away from traditional approaches to meeting their energy needs as they seek greater value from their energy expenditure. We see increasing demand for our innovative products that deliver better value for money. It is very much a case of ‘one size does not fit all’ and this is starting to shape both the market here at home and across Europe.”

“As the focus on environmental sustainability increases, access to renewable energy sources has become a very important issue for Irish companies seeking to reduce their carbon footprint. This is having a direct impact on energy production in Ireland and the way businesses procure electricity in particular. We see this as a growing part of our business over the coming years as businesses seek to move away from basic products offered by utilities traditionally and seek out suppliers willing to take the time to understand their particular requirements.”

Ecocem operates from a purpose-built plant located in the Port of Dublin. Each year, Ecocem group converts more than a million tonnes of industrial by-product into an economic and environmentally sustainable building material. This enables Ecocem customers to use the best quality cement at a competitive cost while minimising the impact on the environment.

Quick energy: Candy bar or green salad?

Can anyone explain in biological terms why a candy bar is better for QUICK energy than a green salad?

candy bar has alot of carbs and sugars which will increase your blood glucose level that will cause the release of the hormone insulin. Insulin triggers glycolysis and glycogen formation. glycolysis yields energy. the pyruvate formed will then go through the TCA cycle for more energy. The electron carriers, NADH and FADH2 will then go through the ETC cycle for even more ATP!

If you eat energy chocolate bars and peanuts now and then can you still lose weight?

Considering you exercise few times a week too and also eat healthy food i.e vegetables, wholegrain/meal, drink water regularly, green tea etc..Is eating chocolate energy and alpen bars now and then alright? are peanuts where you have to peel off alright to eat sometimes?

No. I don't think so... All foods have calories so it is impossible to lose weight if you eat chocolate and peanuts. Also it depends on how long you exercise and how.
You should at least exersice for 1 and a half hours per week.
Good luck.
