The Department of Energy has created a clean energy-themed coloring book and a separate book of clean energy-related puzzles and games, and is encouraging teachers, parents and kids to use them as back to school “resources.”
“For hand-on activities that help bring energy topics to life, check out the Department’s Energy Education site, ” the Department of Energy wrote on a blog post Tuesday. “Full of creative lesson plans, labs, projects and other energy-related activities for grades K-12, the site has a toolkit that makes learning about energy fun.”
The coloring book encourages kids to ‘be part of the clean energy generation!” It’s filled with examples of clean energy that kids can color if they wish.
“Clean energy can come from the sun, ” the first page states, above a picture of the sun fueling solar panels on a house. “The energy in wind can make electricity, ” it says on page two, under a picture of two wind turbines.
It also has a picture called “make the switch” that encourages kids to use more energy efficient light bulbs.
The department has also made an “energy awareness activity book” filled with crossword puzzles, word searches and mazes for kids to do. The book also includes a sudoku-inspired number puzzle that uses a new LED light bulb instead of the number “1.”
