HVAC controls Green Building Commissioning
AABC Commissioning Group – Independent, non-profit association created to advance professional commissioning and energy management services. The creator of the “Certified Commissioning Authority” designation certification
ASHRAE / American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning – an international membership organization founded to advance the arts and sciences of heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigeration and related human actors to serve the evolving needs of the public.
BEAP / Building Energy Assessment Professional – ASHRAE Certification
Building Envelope or Enclosure – The “skin” of a structure that separates climate controlled space from non-climate controlled space (walls, windows, doors, roofs).
Building Enclosure Commissioning (BECx) – The building enclosure is a key component of healthy high performing buildings as its design determines ability to keep the weather out; introduce sufficient quantities of daylight to offset the need for artificial lighting; sizing of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, and the total cost of operation. CxGBS® has extensive experience in building envelope commissioning starting from pre-design through the life of the building. Much of our experience comes from our forensic investigation of building enclosure failures resulting in moisture intrusion from design, construction, and operational errors. The interaction between building systems; enclosure, mechanical, structural, controls has a significant impact on energy efficiency. The special knowledge CxGBS has comes from over 30 years of investigation and evaluation of whole buildings. This knowledge is applied to our commissioning process to significantly reduce the risk of these problems occurring in new buildings and reoccurring in existing buildings thereby reducing team risk. Systems typically commissioned include roof, fenestration, exterior above grade and subterranean wall assemblies. In addition to the building enclosure assemblies (roof, fenestration, exterior above grade and subterranean wall assemblies) building enclosure commissioning includes interaction between the building envelope and HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems.
